The Axe and the lumberjack

If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six sharpening my Axe.

~Abraham Lincoln

This simple statement is probably one of the most profound business principles I have ever read.

Effective (sales, marketing, managing, leading) is like cutting down trees.  Highly effective professionals know the value of taking time to sharpen their tools.

They build time for exercise and reading into their schedules.
They don’t neglect their families.
They watch less TV than others, play fewer video games, and don’t waste time surfing the Internet.

Effective professionals do all these things because they are finding fulfillment in their personal growth and development.
